What is an ‘after party,’ anyway?
It’s a relatively new, rapidly trending concept for those who want to keep up the energy of their reception -- where drinks, music, and celebrations continue well into the evening (or morning) hours.
Fortunately, it isn’t the type of thing that requires an “official invite.” Instead, the bride and groom (or wedding party, or guests!) decide to extend the reception for those that wish to join, generally after most of the (usually more ‘seasoned’) guests have left. And really, why not? For those having a blast dancing, singing, and enjoying that welcoming bar, all it takes is a nod from the host – and maybe a collection from the guests to keep the band playing – and the vibe flowing.
Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering event team is seeing more and more of these. We’ve also noticed some awkward moments by guests trying to get the idea to go live. With that in mind, it’s a good idea to float the idea ahead of time to make sure your event space can be reserved longer into the evening. Ditto for the bartender, the servers and the band or DJ. Your event planner can give you a suggested additional amount to offer these folks if and when you ask for their additional time.
Of course, if you mention this possibility ahead of time, there will be no surprises – or disappointments.
What about the fun gathering the day after a wedding?
It's a really thoughtful gesture for out-of town attendees, especially or for those who are staying in a hotel with the rest of the wedding party. Sometimes called a post-wedding or farewell brunch, it’s generally more relaxed than the actual wedding reception itself – and of course, full of great brunch favorites.
If it’s not held at the hotel dining room, it’s a nice touch add a brunch to the wedding weekend itinerary on the day following the wedding. It’s also a good idea to locate the brunch conveniently near the hotel or reception site. We make sure the brunch choice selection is hearty and full of sure-fire favorites, since many guests will depart for home immediately after the brunch.
Both of these wedding addendums add a warm, thoughtful – and – the case of the after-party celebration, an energizing touch to your wedding plans. Isn’t that what memoriable moments are all about?
Give us a head’s up and we’ll be happy to help you with all kinds of event planning and menu ideas. It’s what Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering is all about!
